War over Oude IJsselstreek: Ulft-Oer

June 1943. You think, you made it to the North sea for an emergency landing, as the pilot of a Halifax that had been shot at, if suddenly you see a church steeple in front of you.

It appeared to be foggy. The wireless already was dead and the tail gunner had been able to abandon the aircraft from behind. The front hatch was stuck. With only two engine left a crash was unavoidable. This mission ended in an earthen wall. “well, we are down, chaps!” Four aircrew did not survive.
